REQUIREMENTS:
Juris Doctorate; licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Ohio. You must be admitted in the Northern District of Ohio Federal Court or able to be admitted shortly after accepting a position with the Tax Foreclosure Unit.
Preferred three (3) years of experience in civil litigation and appeals.
Must provide proof of competed COVID-19 vaccination
FUNCTION:
The Cuyahoga County Prosecuting Attorney through his Tax Foreclosure Unit Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys represent the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer, the Cuyahoga County Treasurer, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff, and State of Ohio in all civil foreclosure proceedings, probate proceedings, contempt proceedings, and bankruptcy proceedings, including but not limited to litigation and related transactional matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent and provide legal advice to the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer; the Cuyahoga County Treasurer; the Cuyahoga County Sheriff; and the State of Ohio in civil foreclosure proceedings, probate proceedings, contempt proceedings and bankruptcy proceedings;
- Handle tax foreclosure and related civil litigation in which Cuyahoga County has an interest, including contract negotiation and payment disputes;
- Responsible for filing complaints, answers and related motion practice in civil actions filed in the Court of Common Pleas (General and Probate Divisions), the United States Northern District Court, and Ohio municipal courts; and for related appellate court proceedings;
- Perform all other duties assigned, delegated or required of the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney as well as those prescribed by law; and
- Conduct business in accordance with federal statutes and guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code, and the Ohio Administrative Code.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Preferred experience representing county and local governments;
- Preferred experience and advanced knowledge of utilizing Microsoft Excel;
- Must possess excellent research and writing skills and requisite understanding of relevant laws and regulations;
- Must possess qualities of fairness, a strong work ethic, have the highest integrity; and must also maintain the confidentiality of law enforcement and investigatory records and other confidential information; and
- Conduct business in accordance with federal statutes and guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code, and the Ohio Administrative Code.
