REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field with three (3) years’ experience in a production systems environment including database management and SQL programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

FUNCTION:

The purpose of this classification is to assist and administer daily maintenance of databases and servers including backing up and restoring databases. Assists the Administrator of Infrastructure and Operations with installing, monitoring, and applying patches and to ensure data integrity and efficient operation. Additionally, this classification develops and analyses SQL queries, creates SSRS Reports and assists in the administration of the SharePoint 365 enterprise environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and modifying databases; monitors servers; manages DB Server user accounts; schedules system jobs; reviews and performs database design and programming; assists with database installations and with installing applications; assists with monitoring DB health and capacity; managing upgrades and data migration. Performs and assists with SQL query development for reporting and statistical requests; assists with query performance analysis and optimization.
  • Maintains database backups; utilizes a variety of software in order to schedule job execution for reorganization of databases, to back up databases, to execute recovery; uses software utilities for file management and maintenance.
  • Provides computer software technical support and assistance to end-users in a County department (e.g. - installs and maintains software; troubleshoots problems with software programs or supporting hardware and makes or initiates corrections; writes macro programs within software to automate data calculations for users; publishes procedural manuals, reports, graphs, charts, etc. to present programs and other information; conducts software training sessions for department employees. Additionally: assists with the administration of the SharePoint 365 enterprise environment.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to prepare documentation, including a variety of technical lists, flow charts, technical reports, diagrams, and other job-related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
  • Ability to comprehend a variety of informational documents including technical database system documentation, ongoing database warnings and notifications, network backup report logs, data input/output logs, email, and system status reports.
  • Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including operating system Administration reference, database documentation, backup Administration procedures; network, and operation manuals, and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to influence others, record and deliver information, explain procedures, and to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals within and outside the Department and to communicate with users, vendor technical support representatives, peers, and departmental employees and administrators.
  • Ability to use and interpret computer and computer programming terminology and languages.
